Saturday March 5th - Agnes Head

Today was an overcast and sometimes rainy day.  But what better way to spend such a day as to be in the water attempting to learn to surf.  I do believe the optimal word is "attempting".  We signed up for a group lesson and spent three hours splashing about in the ocean in a vane effort to stand erect on a moving undulating plank of fiberglass.  The concept is quite absurd when you think about it.  We did not let the absurdity of the concept deter us from our conviction to master the board.  I must admit that I am using the word "master" here in a very broad context.
Here I am as I undertake the learning phase of the surfing course:

The three of us dutifully absorbed the lessons that were imparted to us by the quintessential professional Australian surf instructor.  His heavy Aussie accent at times clouded the clarity of what I am sure were great morsels of surfing wisdom.  I did walk away with a couple clear bits from his lecture.  They were: g'day and standup.  Not much more was needed I think.
The results of my absorption of the lessons are below:

Not bad for my first concerted effort at surfing...

Additionally, we went and saw the place where Captain Cook discovered Australia in 1770.  We took a short hike along the point to get out to the head.  There were spectacular views and wonderful sights along the way.  It was great to have Janice, my Aussie host, along as she pointed out numerous flora and fauna and explained what they were.  All in all, a great walk.
Janice and Caroline, my traveling companions.

Overlooking the point...

Some of the camouflaged critters we saw along the way.

Now we are enjoying a glass of wine sitting looking at the ocean and dining on a cheese plate.  Can it get much better?!   Actually yes it can.  We are going over to a friend of Janice's for a barbee shortly.  A great day!!!
