Here is an example of the type of people who undertake the Tour d'Afrique. Brigit from Germany did the Tour d'Afrique last year. But due to unrest in Egypt they did not start in Cairo, they started in Khartoum. She rode from Khartoum to Cape Town and finished the tour last year even after she crashed and broke her collar bone on day 3 of the trip. She is now back this year to do the Cairo to Khartoum leg as she didn't want it said she did not do the entire trek. Now that is an iron woman!
