It was a fairly uneventful trip on Royal Jordanian airlines. I did get a glimpse into what is ahead for me in terms of using what I know to interpret the world. There was a selection of movies to watch inflight. I scrolled down the menu.... Action, Drama, Comedy ... Western Classic! Yes, Western Classic that's for me. Nothing like a classic western, Shane, or John Wayne in Stagecoach or Fort Apache. But what to my wondering eyes should appear when I select this genre??? Jim Carey in A Christmas Carol, Die Hard, Four Christmas', Erin Brokovich, Jewels of the Nile and Two Weeks notice! A handsome selection I might add. But westerns? I think not. But then if you broaden your concept of the word, sure these were made in the West. Much similar to me being one of only a few westerners on the flight. So a lesson right out of the gate on taking the broad interpretation of things. But then again I go back to the word Classic as in Western Classic. No I say! There is not a single one of these movies that can under any stretch of the term be considered "Classic". As hard as I might I can not seem to rationalize the use of that term.
My next session in terms and their broader use came when I reached the hotel... a Four Star Gem. I think I will have to apply the previous lesson learned with "Western Classic" to be able to truly to embrace this hotel's 4 Star rating. Hey, after several weeks of camping and sleeping in the desert this might look like a 12 Star! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Each room comes complete with a can of Raid flying insect killer, odorless. Another term to grasp with a wide interpretation.
Off to sleep I go with my new friends the mosquito family......
The star rating is a loose concept. Western Classic stars and Mid-East stars are not necessarily in the same constellation. No comments about the mayhem at the coustoms and immigration? Maybe it has improved . Glad to see you have arrived safe. Did GG also arrive safe and sound?
