Just had our first riders meeting and the excitement begins. The first stage of the tour is six days in length. We start out of Cairo and head east southeast into the desert. We will cycle for just over 80 miles tomorrow and camp out in the desert. They term it Bush Camp which is code for no facilities or running water. The entire length of the first stage (6 days) is Bush Camp (no showers or toilet facilities). Day 2 is 103 miles and we will reach the Red Sea. From there we travel along the Red Sea for days 3 and 4 which are 85 and 62 miles days respectively. Then on Day 5 we head inland over the mountains for a 77 mile day with a 3,500 foot climb. And day 6 is a short 67 mile ride into Luxor for a rest day in the Valley of the Kings.
Can't wait to get this started!!! We start cycling at 6:30 tomorrow morning (so when you are going to bed Thursday night, I will begin my cycling!) Temperature tomorrow is to be in the mid 40's, brrrrrrrr. Nothing like a brisk ride to start off the adventure. They say we will be wishing for the cold weather once we hit the Sudan.
This is so exciting!!! I am so ready for this adventure to begin....
