Day 27 - Feb 4
Today was a great day before the heat started cooking. The roads were still dirt but were more worthy of the term road than yesterday's. It was a bit of a rough start in that the directions out of camp were not the clearest. There were groups of cyclists heading all over the place. A group of us headed out and were cycling for about 6-7 kilometers when we realized we were heading north and west, back the way we came from yesterday. So turnaround we did and back to camp to get the real start. Once we got on track the morning and early afternoon went splendid. The roads were rough but doable, the scenery beautiful, the little villages fantastic. One village I stopped my bike and was swarmed with kids. There had to be over 40 kids. Once they saw a cyclist stop they came running. I showed them how my bike worked.... brakes stopping the rolling wheel, the gears changing, the bike computer kilometers and per hour. They would all break out in laughter and scream. You would have thought I was doing magic tricks. When we come through a village you would swear the carnival just came to town by the excitement in the village.
One village we rode through I would yell ... Hello, Hello. And the kids would come running chanting Hello, Hello! When I would answer them with Hello, Hello they would all run away screaming. Then they would turn around a come running Hello, Hello! And on and on it went. They would all laugh and carry on. It was really cool.
The sun has set and the moon is rising. I wish you could see it. It is almost full and is a red orange color coming up over the trees. Beautiful!!! What a perfect end to the day!
The tour rider sweep getting people back on track at the start of the day.
The village at the start of the day.
This is the way the women carry just about everything.
Kids looking at us as we made a coke stop.
Now you have done it. I'm back to wishing I was there. Imagine what the would say if the saw my recumbent. Hello, hello.
ReplyDeleteI remember coming out of a hotel someplace on the 2011 Crossroads trip across the US and turning right instead of left. If someone had not been close enough to yell at me, I probably would have ridden back to LA,
Enjoy your ride and watch out for the water.
