Day 20 - Dec 4

Today was the first of a four day stretch of cycling.  It was a short day with only 58 kilometers of riding all on pavement and only 935 meters of climbing.  As I was typing that it occurred to me how absurd that sounded.  ONLY 58 k and ONLY 935 m of climbing...  That in any other context would be a tough day of cycling.  But our perspective has been so altered it almost seemed like an additional rest day.  :)

We crossed the border from Honduras into Guatamala this morning.  It was the easiest border crossing I have been through of any countries this year, or for that matter ever.  You handed them your passport, said Buenos Dias, they stamped it and off we went on our way.  No questions, no forms to fill out, no hassle, just smooth as silk.  It was shocking.

After the border crossing we cycled for awhile and then into our hotel.  I was finished before 10 am.  I got to the hotel before the van carrying the luggage.  I had so much time on my hands that I cycled up to the town looked around, exchanged money, rode back to the hotel, took a dip in the pool all before lunch was even ready.

The next two days are going to make up for the easy day today.  Tomorrow will be about half on dirt with 2,100 meters of climbing.  And the next day will be 80% on dirt with 2,500 meters of climbing.  :(

Guess I better put my climbing legs on...
