Day 18 - Dec 2

To all
This will be a short posting.  To sum it up in a very succinct manner...
Today was the worst day I have ever spent on a bike, bar none!  Worst than any day in Africa, worst than any day across America.
The first half of the day was grueling climbing on pavement that rivaled the Blue Nile Gorge climb in Africa.  The staff told us most of the tough climbing was to be in the morning.  But as it turned out the second half of the day  was excruciatingly brutal.  It was mostly dirt roads with 24% grade.  Yes, I said 24% grade.   Much of it was virtually unbikable.
It was a brutal torturous day that will live in infamy.  In true TDA fashion they had us riding on roads that weren't even roads.  They were planned to be roads in the future but today they were not.

The positive for today is that I actually finished it!!!  I rode 74 miles and climbed 11,131 feet (over two miles of climbing) in elevation in one day.  That is a monstrous day.
I rode with a guy from Australia and Germany.  At the end of the day we walked straight into the bar of the hotel and bought beers.  Beer after beer after beer...  Think Pink Cafe of Mexico for my cross country friends.
And that is all I can say about today....

Tomorrow is a rest day in Copan Ruinas. It is the site of an ancient Mayan settlement.  That will make for a great rest day...
