April 17

Well, it appears I was correct and incorrect about my situation.  I said that I caught a bug and was sick.  I was correct in that I did catch a bug but incorrect in that I am not sick.  I am inhabited!  Kind of like Alien!!!  I have a foreign body or more appropriately, thousands of them.  I have picked up the parasite giardia.  A nasty little bug that is wreaking havoc on my digestive system. It is one of the ancillary benefits of traveling through Africa.  Yay!

I have started on the kick it in the #** treatment route that poses its own set of fun side effects.  Better those than an extended period of parasite induced gastrointestinal hell.  So wish me luck as I cycle through this baby.   :)

My new little friend.  :(

  1. Oh Mike!!!!!! That's terrible. You've made it so far & to have this towards the end of your trip is disheartening. Take care of yourself. Don't push yourself & don't be stubborn - be good to yourself. We're thinking of you. Lordy!!!!!!

  2. Mike, Hey, always good to bring home a souvenir of your travels (or several thousand). All seriousness aside, take whatever drugs you need and kill this thing. We call it beaver fever in Canada and as we all know, too much beaver is not good for you. On the bright side, you only have several thousand miles left so hang in there. Montana Mike and I are already planning our next group trip with you as the draft horse. We really enjoyed reading about your days at Victoria Falls. It sounds like you had a great time (except for the bad water...). Ok, take care and keep fighting the (IRS) bugs. Scott.

  4. Lots of fun. You did not have to go to Africa to get giardia, we have plenty of that here.
