MILESTONE ALERT

I am crossing into my 11th and last country of my journey!  I am leaving Namibia and entering South Africa.

This is the last week of my adventure.  This Saturday the 9th about 1 pm South Africa time I will be crossing the finish line.  (For those back in the US... when you get up Saturday morning I will have finished this epic adventure.

But before it is done I will have to climb over 27,000 feet this week alone.  Wish me luck.

  3. Enjoy your final lag of the trip, even though it sounds like it is going to be very hard of course like everywhere else in Africa. 11 countries on a bike in Africa is definitely an epic journey! Thinking of you. I have enjoyed your blog so much, you write very well and it sure has given me a different picture of Africa than I got when I was there. Kristy

  4. You are virtually in Cape Town with a glass of wine in your hand! All the best for your last few days. Debra

  5. Well, still having to climb 2000 feet short of the Mt Everest Summit leaves more "work" to do and war stories to tell!! I agree with Bob Myers that your serial adventure reporting has been super--it made the Winter days more interesting! So, at the end, we hope you will add an epilogue reflecting on how the changes in latitude has affected your attitude and outlook ?
Press on Mike and enjoy the Home Stretch!!

  7. Mike, It is traditional at this stage of a tour for people to start thinking about their next trip. Allow me to save you the worry. TdA's Silk Road is right up your alley. A little over 12,000 km though China and the "Stan's". Being pelted by stones is only something you could wish for on this trip. And the food? Forgetaboutit. Actually, I have already signed you up. They have your credit card number on file so you are good to go. Your best.... friend, Scott. (And Mike...).

  8. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to reading about it. Relax and enjoy your last week. You will have to take Scott with you on the next one. I would go but my wife will not let me out of the house for that long.
